Title: "Managing Across Mindsets"

"Managing for the Millennium" is a title used by GlobalWorkshop.com for workshops and training programs organized around themes relevant to managers and professionals who will be leading their firms into the first decade of the global, multicultural 21st century. Other training event titles used by GlobalWorkshop.com are "Managing for the Millennium" and "Global Diversity Management Training." These workshops draw on the practice leaders' comprehensive understanding of culture's influence on managerial behavior.

Objectives:

Under this and other titles, GlobalWorkshop.com customizes training events and educational programs to meet the specific needs of client firms (divisions, departments, working groups). Sample objectives that have guided our workshop-development efforts for previous clients include the following:

- to anticipate the possible consequences of American management styles in overseas settings

- to generate "culture-revealing questions" to ask local nationals and other informants

- to gain understanding of the human & organizational characteristics of a global corporation

- to understand how differences in values undermine relations with counterparts abroad

- to develop a framework for analyzing and responding to business-related value differences

- to gain simulated experience of two culturally different management styles

- to practice behavioral techniques for responding appropriately to human differences

- to become familiar with effects of group homogeneity & heterogeneity on team effectiveness.

Duration:

One to five days. Many are two or three days. All workshops are customized to address specific client needs. Deciding on the workshop’s duration is an aspect of the customization process.

Coach’s Qualifications:

- senior group facilitator of a wide range of programs with years of successful corporate experience

- high familiarity with global management challenges and their cross-cultural implications for practice

- familiarity with concepts and challenges facing the trainees (engineering, finance, marketing, etc.)

Agenda:

"Managing Across Mindsets" workshops are never "off the shelf"; that is, they are never offered with a standard agenda. Each workshop is unique, emphasizing competencies and knowledge that will upgrade the global capabilities of the client: a specific division, department, or working group. A second factor influencing the agenda is the degree of previous cross-cultural experience of the attendee(s).

The trainer selected by GlobalWorkshop’s practice leaders is the professional who resonates most closely with the needs of the client. Primary responsibility for developing the agenda belongs to the trainer, who works in frequent consultation with one or more knowledgeable representatives of the client.
